You understand by viewing this website you will be introduced to information about an innovated energy-based coaching and self-help method based on the newly emerging field of energy psychology called Emotional Freedom Techniques or EFT.  EFT seeks to address imbalances within a person’s energy system, as well as the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs, and emotions on the body. The prevailing premise of EFT is that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system. It is believed that EFT helps clear these disruptions, thereby restoring the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies. EFT uses the ancient Chinese meridian system with a gentle tapping procedure which stimulates designated meridian end points on the face and body while saying specific phrases and focusing on issues of emotional intensity in order to release the intensity and reframe the issues. The theory of energy-based methods such as the EFT is that the flow and balance of the body’s electromagnetic and more subtle energies are important for physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health, and for fostering well-being.

While EFT is intended for “healing”, it is not to be construed that the use of EFT is the practice of medicine, psychology, psychotherapy, or other licensed health care practice. Rather, EFT is designed to assist an individual in addressing the energetic influence of thoughts, beliefs and emotions and how they impact the health and well-being of the individual. You understand there is a distinction between “healing” using the EFT and the practice of psychology, psychotherapy, medicine, or any other licensed health care practice. Further, you understand that EFT is not intended to be a substitute for psychological or medical diagnosis or treatment, and it does not replace the services of licensed health care professionals. Carol Richard strongly advises you seek professional advice as appropriate before making any health decision.

Although EFT appears to have promising health benefits and there is a growing amount of valid scientific research indicating that EFT meets the criteria to be considered an evidence-based technique, especially for managing stress, EFT has yet to be fully accepted by the mainstream Western academic, medical, and psychological communities. Therefore, EFT is currently not officially identified as an evidence-based technique and may be considered experimental and the extent of its effectiveness, as well as its risk and benefits, are not fully known. EFT is self-regulated and neither Canada or the United States licenses practitioners of EFT and both countries consider EFT to be a complementary and alternative health care approach.

While Carol Richard is an Accredited Certified EFT Practitioner, she is not a psychologist, psychotherapist, physician, or other licensed health care provider. The services she provides are complementary or alternative to the services provided by health care practitioners licensed by the Province of Prince Edward Island.
